Friday Confessional

I confess I think I'm losing my mind!
It happened with all my pregnancies. Each one has been different, some worse than others.
This one is the worst.
At the beginning of this pregnancy I would say my brain was oatmeal.
It quickly turned to mush.
It didn't take long before it was jello.
Then melting jello lingered a while.
Now I think a glass of kool-aid has more intelligence.

In some ways I think it's a typical tired over worked, stressed out mom brain.
I forget where my keys are.
I call my kids the wrong name, and I forget when appointments are.
If I don't write it down or get a reminder, I will never remember.
I hope I'm not the only mom who forgets she put her child in time out.
After the child sits much longer than they are supposed to they beg me to get out.
Of course, it's been so long, I don't remember why I put them there.
So instead of admitting I forgot, I ask,"Do you know why you got in trouble?"

It doesn't just end there.
I've taken forgetfulness to the next level.
I will get a text from someone and just forget to respond.
Not because I'm driving or busy doing something.  I will just forget to respond.
My kids will ask me to do something, and I'll forget.
They have to ask me several times before I'll finally remember.
A few weeks ago I lost my cell phone.
My husband found it in the fridge on top of the salad.
Once I handed my daughter a fork and said, "Here's your pancake."

Then a couple weeks ago I said something to my son,
and he laughed and repeated back to me what I'd said.
(Of course I don't remember what it was.)
What he said made no sense though.
I said that's not what I said is it?
Just then my oldest daughter leaned over and whispered, "You know what she meant. We don't have to fix EVERYTHING mom says. That'll make her feel bad."

I read the same Readers Digest article 4 times.
I forgot I read it everytime until I was part way through the article.
Each time I'd see the topic and think "WOW That looks like a great article.  I should read it."
The name of the article was "How To Improve Your Memory."
Obviously the article didn't work.

I would have posted this blog earlier, but I wrote it last Friday and forgot to post it.
Then when I went to find it on my computer I couldn't remember where I put it.
My husband had to find it for me.

What are some things you've forgotten?

  2. Ha ha! Your blog is awesome. I am the exact same way, and it scares me sometimes. Good to know it's "normal"... Oh man... I forget everything. I will say to my daughter, "in 15 minutes I'll drive you to piano", than 45 minutes later... yeah, you know the rest. :)

  3. things i rarely lose / forget: keys, cell phone, sunglasses, book i am reading - and what page i am on, birthdays, anniversaries, word for word conversations, oh, just about everything. but that is because

    1. i am obsessive,
    2. i am single and childless,
    3. i have a place for everything, and put everything in its place (see 1 & 2 above), and
    4. i freak out when i can't find stuff (in my head or in reality).

having said that, when i DO lose something, i HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO LOOK - because it just doesn't happen!

and finally. i am getting old(er), and starting to forget things, and it SCARES THE HECK OUT OF ME!!!

be glad you have kids to remind you ... even if they are the reason your brain is diluted kool aid ...

    love & hugs, as always!!

  4. hahaha! You kill me! I always forget where I'm driving, appointments, and where I put things. When one of my best friends was pregnant, she pulled up at the dance studio to drop off her daughter, and realized she hadn't picked her up from school yet!
