The strong silent type.

Let me introduce you all to my 23 month old. He is the sweetest, cutest,
funniest toddler around.  He usually gets everything he wants because he has
5 older siblings who thinks the world revolves around him.  Which most days
it does!!! I just have one small issue. He won't talk.  He can talk - I
think. He just doesn't.  He understands everything I say and can answer
"yes" and "no" questions perfectly.   He says a few things like Mom, Dad,
yes, no, ball, apple, his 15 year-old brother's name, his 5 year-old
brother's name (which sounds the same as the 15 year brothers name - just
with an added s sound). He calls his 14 year-old sister "Yes." It took a
while to figure out he was talking about her because her name sounds nothing
like "Yes" and because he also says "Yes" meaning yes, he agrees with you
(although "No!" is used much more).

He just says "Mom" instead of using the
right words.   If he wants to be picked up he says "Mom, mom, mom" until I
pick him up.  If he wants a drink he says "Mom, mom, mom" until I give him a
drink.

Now you might be asking how I know what he wants? He has the cutest little
facial expressions you'll ever see.  If he wants something from the fridge,
he will come up to me and say "Mom" until I pick him up. Then, he'll tilt
his little head toward the fridge and say "Mom" while rolling his big blue
eyes up toward the fridge until I open the fridge.  Then, he says "Mom" and
"No" until I guess the right thing. Then, I try to get him to say please.
Which he can say but hates to.

I say, "say please."
He says, "Mom."

I say, "say please."
He says, "Mom!"

I say, " no, say please!"
He says,"MOM!"

This is how it works for everything. I try to get him to talk, and he says
"Mom."  Honestly, I'm so sick of hearing "Mom!!"  I never thought I could ever get sick of hearing it but I am.  Now, he doesn't call everyone mom, just me.  So if he asks someone else for something he
says "Dad", "yes", or their name until they give him what he wants.  He is cute but....

We got the drinks for all 6 kids to share,
but without say a word, he made
it very clear who would be drinking them all!!

Believe it or not, this is a happy laughing face!!
See how easy it is to understand his facial expressions?

  1. He is cute, don't worry about him not speaking, I had a younger sister that didn't speak until about 1 or 1 1/2. All she could say was 'Huh' and of course us teenagers would know exactly what she wanted and get it for her. In fact a friend of the family started calling her Huh instead of her name.
She is now a college graduate, a wonderful mother of 5 with one in college about to be married next month.
