An Almost Typical Day at My House!

This morning I am grateful yesterday is over!!  I guess it was a typical day for me, but with a few extra adventures.  Let me try to just touch on the highlights…

It all started with only getting a few hours of sleep (I won't try to describe the crazy day before).
After waking up it was a typical morning of getting 5 kids up, ready for school, and out the door.
Some kids ate a granola bar as they were running to school, but I did this one fairly easy.
Then it was the first week of preschool with my 3 year old-- which just happened to be at my house this week.
This went smooth up until the end when one of the boys got bit by a spider while playing outside.
We then spent a few minutes trying to find and take a picture of the spider to make sure it wasn’t poisonous.
I had just enough time to fix lunch for my little munchkins, and then I was off to pick up my princess (15 year old sophomore in high school).
I picked up princess and got her to the doctor for a sports physical so she could run in a race at 2:30.
We didn’t get in to see the doctor until 2!!
Finally, we were leaving the doctor at 2:25 when my oldest (17 year old senior in high school) calls and says he will need a ride back to school at 3:30.
I went back to the high school to drop off my daughter and discovered we had indeed missed the cross country team.
So now I had to go in and pay for the cross country uniform and then drive her to the race.
But first I had to go home and pick up my son and take him back to the high school.
Princess was not happy with that (for really good reason), because now she might miss the race altogether.
I dropped Princess off at the race with just enough time for her to throw her backpack at a friend and run to the starting line, arriving just as they started the race.
Lets just say it wasn’t a horrible race, but not her best.
I made it home in time to print off some materials and get stuff ready for cub scouts.
The printer wasn’t working which caused me even more stress.
Princess called because she needed a ride home.
So I went to the wrong high school to pick her up.  I eventually found her at the right high school.
I made it home to find a hurt homing pigeon in my driveway.  The pigeon found safety under my SUV so I couldn’t pull in until we convinced him to come out from under my vehicle.   (No I didn’t hit him)
I called animal control and left a message.
I made leftovers for dinner and tried to finish stuff I needed for cub scouts.
The cub scouts arrived.
While trying to get scouts started, I noticed a couple of the neighbor boys were chasing my hurt homing pigeon and trying to hit him with their scooters.  So with 5 Wolf scouts getting hyper from the bag of candy that one of the scouts brought are in my house, I went outside to save a pigeon.  (Thanks for the candy by the way. The boys loved it.)
I and another neighbor caught the bird and put him in my cat carrier.
The other den leader arrived at this point to help me with the now very hyper and out of control cubs.
Then my son called to tell me that he needed a ride from the high school to yet another activity.
So I left the cubs with the other leader at my house and went to pick up my son.
I made it home to discover the scouts had all lost their minds on sugar!!
We decided to take the party outside in hopes that would help. It didn’t!
Animal control finally came and now the scouts were all upset because they wanted to take the bird home with them.
I asked the nice Animal Control Officer if he’d take some wolves with him.  For some reason, he thought I was kidding and only laughed.
We won’t even talk about how the art project went.
Cub scouts finally ended with only one scout having tried to run away.
Then after cubs, I spent my time trying to help kids finish homework.  Don't teachers know that life happens outside of high school?
Finally I was able to get the kids who didn’t eat dinner fed and put all the young ones to bed.
I wasn't done yet.  I had to run to the store.
When I got home I discovered some kids were still up late doing homework.
Finally I went to sleep at 12:30 AM!!!

Days like this make me very grateful for every other day of the year.  I can look on the bright side. Yesterday I didn’t have my 3 year old fall into the birthday cake of the son of a political candidate which is running for county mayor.   That happened last month.

  1. Wow. I guess even the homing pigeon knew which house to land at because you would take care of it!

I'm 99% sure that there is a special, quiet place in heaven for cub scout leaders. Especially Wolf Den Leaders. Bless you.

And just think about your future resume--you will have plenty of experience to get a job as a chauffeur, with a side job as wolf wrangler.

I hope the end of your week is better and includes more sleep!

  2. I just wanted to add. I love my calling in the cub scouts!! I have an amazing group of boys and I love each one of them! I take full responsability for the crazziness. Next time I won't save hurt and lost animals and my son can walk! haha My cub scouts are awesome!!

  3. That made me even more tired!! You amaze me! I mean, not only were driving everyone everywhere, you were doing your calling, and feeding the masses but you also knew what a homing pigeon was...I mean, is that different from the regular pigeons??

You are so going to heaven!

And I am jealous of "Princesses" cross country membership! I wish I did that in high school!
